SAINTE-LIVRADE-SUR-LOT

The Conventual Priory Sainte-Livrade was located 380 km from La Chaise-Dieu. Former collegiate whose clergy, eager to embrace the regular life, submitted to La Chaise-Dieu in 1117, the recommendation being underwritten by the abbot, the dean, the sexton and 23 canons. The bishop of Agen approved in 1119, as well as Pope Calixte II. The Duke of Aquitaine, William IX, abandoned in 1122 his superiority over the church.
Conventual conventual Casadean which, besides the 12 cloisters mentioned, maintained 2 claustral officers, sub-prior and nurse. The church was the patronage of the prior as well as those of Saint-Martin (Ferrensac), Go (Go-and-Caseneuve), Cailladelles (Castelnaud-de-Gratecambe), Lamaurelle (Dolmayrac), Lentignac (Moulinet), Saint-Cyprien (Dolmayrac), Saint-Paul-le-Jeune and Saint-Paul-le-Vieux (All FRANCE - Lot-et-Garonne- 47). All these churches are mentioned in the bull of Pope Lucius III. The prior was decimator at Sainte-Livrade, Go (Go-and-Caseneuve), Cailladelles (Castelnaud-de-Gratecambe), Lamaurelle (Dolmayrac), Lentignac (Moulinet), Saint-Cyprien (Dolmayrac), Saint-Paul-le- Young and Saint-Paul-le-Vieux (transaction of 1288 with the lord of Cancon (FRANCE - Lot-et-Garonne- 47)).

The prior had a censive, with ovens, fisheries on the Lot, the leyde of the goods brought to the market, which Richard I confirmed him in 1189. The city of Sainte-Livrade was seigniory of church under the "superiority" of the duke of Aquitaine, count of Agenais. The secular lords of the neighborhood often attacked the rights of the monks, who had recourse to the Plantagenet, duke of Aquitaine. In 1189, Richard Coeur de Lion took Sainte-Livrade under his protection, with his territorial dependencies and his men "bourgeois and inhabitants" of Sainte-Livrade, in 1200, John Lackland confirmed the prior in the possession of the high justice. Subsequently the monks appealed to the Holy See, which demanded in 1229 Armand-Bernard de Villemur the restitution of the castle, justice and various rights he had seized; the monks, however, had to compose, sharing the justice of which they preserved only a quarter, the other lords justiciers to pay homage to the abbot of La Chaise-Dieu of their partial rights.

The prior also had difficulties with the bishop of Agen (FRANCE - Lot-et-Garonne- 47) who in 1242 claimed that the monastery was dependent on him and that he was entitled to name all benefits dependent. Supported by the abbot the prior rejected his claims but accepted a compromise : the prior was kept in the patronage of the priests' dependent benefits but agree to pay the bishop "a gold marabotin valued at 10 sous d'Agen" per year. In addition to the priory of Villebramar (FRANCE - Lot-et-Garonne- 47), Sainte-Livrade had under his dependence that of Saint-Etienne-de-Fougeres.
