SAINTE-GEMME

The conventual priory (Sainte-Gemme) located 470 km from La Chaise-Dieu was founded in 1074 under the abbot Durand, following the donation by the duke of Aquitaine Guy-Geoffroy, said William VIII recently master of the Saintonge conquered on the Count of Anjou (1062), the church and the place of Sainte-Gemme with the surrounding lands that the monks had to put in culture. The priory also depended on the church of Saint-Sulpice.
